GCL began its journey in 1942 and has since grown into a multi-crore business conglomerate, establishing itself as a market leader in the Tobacco Industry over 80+ years. Founded by Late Shri Hari Chandji Sugandhi, the company built its legacy through perseverance and innovation.
Today, GCL is expanding beyond tobacco, making a strong mark in the FMCG sector with Mouth freshener & Pan flavouring material offering a unique blend of flavours that resonate with Indian consumers. Diversifying further, GCL has ventured into power with a successful Himachal Pradesh project and hospitality with The Fortune Grace in Mussoorie and Novotel City Centre in New Delhi.
Recognizing its responsibility as an industry leader, GCL established Gopal Foundation and Amit Memorial channelling its resources into social initiatives that uplift vulnerable communities across India. Our Story
Founded by Sri Hari Chand in 1942, the company started out from a small shop in Khari Baoli in Chandni Chowk, Dilli 6, selling products such as Amla oil, Mungfali oil, Chameli oil, Moulsari oil, Gulab oil, White vaseline agarbatti, dhoop, cosmetics, etc. 2 years later, the company launches Zarda, becoming one of the pioneers of what would later comprise the Indian tobacco industry.

Under the leadership of Shri Hari Chand, the company's first pan chutney, and our signature offering, Dilkhush was launched.

Expansion of products
Brand name Gopal launched after Shri Gopal Gupta, the current Chairman of the company's birth.

Pioneering Media

The company re-positioned the brand as a premium quality brand for the masses. Gopal became the first tobacco company to use mass media for communication. This involved on-ground hoardings in cricket matches, placement of TVC at the beginning of movies on VCR cassettes, promotions across cinema screens and product integration in television serials.
1992
Golden Jubilee
Gopal Group completes 50 years of service and celebrates a legacy of excellence in the manufacturing and distribution of top-notch tobacco products and accompaniments, marked by new innovations that changed the industry as a whole.

2009
Fortune Grace Resort
GCL branches out into the hospitality sector with the establishment of the Fortune Grace Resort in Mussoorie.

2012
Hydro Power
Gopal Group establishes its commitment to clean and sustainable power by the launch of Usaka Hydro Power Plant in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

2023
New Products
This year marked Gopal’s way to expanding its presence in the Indian market with the launch of multiple new products in the tobacco, mouth freshener and pan flavouring material categories namely, Gopal Royale, Silver, B-Kool, Elaichi, and Paan Rachna.

2025
New Ventures
GCL further expands into the hospitality sector with the establishment of Novotel City Centre in the heart of New Delhi marking its presence on the skyline of India’s capital.
